Activities:
~ cannonball fight (black water balloons)
~ walking the plank (into a kiddy pool)

Decor:
~ an assortment of sails (muslin), rope, skulls, candles, pirate treasure, worn leather, sea shells, silver platters, coconuts and palm fronds on the food table
~ the entry table where guests could put their belongings had the welcome sign made to look like it was written by the same pirate who "wrote" the invitation in a bottle , ink bottle and quill (washed out oil diffuser that I coated with paint, and feather), brocade fabric, pirate hook, sea shells, skull candelabra, and stuffed parrot.

Pirate Ship Cake

Triple chocolate fudge cake with milk chocolate filling, chocolate rolled fondant and gum paste accessories. The only inedible items are the poles and sails, which are skewers and paper, respectively. The sails are "aged" around the edges with cocoa powder

Pirate Party Invitations

We normally have a playgroup with our friends at a local park. We let the kids run around and have fun. But it's so hot right now, that we have to go where there's water. I decided to host a water playgroup in our backyard this week. And of course, if I'm going to do anything there must be a theme involved. So here are the invitations:

I printed the invitations I designed on regular 8.5x11" printer paper, then stained them and burned the edges and rolled them in clean glass bottles for a "message in a bottle".
